LIFT Politics Leadership

LIFT POLITICS is an organization focused on elevating the way that we engage in politics. LIFT is guided by principles that focus on the way in which political ends are pursued. LIFT champions fair, respectful, and humanity-based politics. LIFT serves as a gathering place for like-minded others. LIFT enables leaders and individuals to more powerfully LIFT our nation’s politics.

Jay MacFarland

Jay has been a talk show host in various states for the last twenty years. He is now the host of the JayMac Podcast which focuses on cutting through partisan differences and getting to the truth. In 2019 Jay left KSL NewsRadio in Salt Lake City to run for Congress in the 4th Congressional district in Utah. Although his bid for Congress was not successful Jay remains committed to creating change within our local and national government. He is the proud father of four wonderful children and has been married and devoted to his lifelong companion since 1991.

Bob Lavender

Bob is a native of Los Angeles, CA and has now lived in Utah for many years. He flew as a military and commercial pilot for many years. He is a member of the Community Advisory Board for a local police department and a volunteer for LDS Family Services. He previously served on the Black Student Union Board at UVU and as a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society. He enjoys serving with like-minded people…and with some who are not so like-minded.

Shelly Cluff

Shelly is a resident of Salt Lake County in Utah where she lives with her husband and four children. She is often found involved with voter engagement, education, and participation efforts, and frequently volunteers with local level political campaigns. She is passionate about the value of differing perspectives and the importance of treating others with decency and goodwill.

Brad Haymond

Brad has been very active in the Republican Party for decades. He has served as a precinct chair and on the Utah County Party technology committee. He continues to serve as a county and state delegate. He owns his own web design and hosting company and consults with small businesses throughout the Intermountain West. He has Ballroom danced for over 30 years, and also enjoys piano and singing. He loves spending time with his wife and 3 children.

Arion Thompson

Arion is a Taylorsville resident and long time fan of Jay McFarland. He married into politics in 2019 and joined Jay’s 2020 campaign for congress. Arion currently works full time as a network engineer at a local software company. He has been working in IT for over 20 years now. He has a 9 year old daughter and enjoys spending time traveling. His hobbies include gardening, piano and running his aquarium. Arion hopes to bring about positive change and civil discourse back to politics.

David Long

Dave is a long time Utah resident. He became interested in principles over party as Jay Mac’s Campaign Manager in 2020. He and Diane have 6 children and 7 grandkids, so far. Dave has owned a small business in Utah since 1979. He has coached men’s Lacrosse in Salt Lake City for many years including the 2008 National Champion Westminster College Griffins.
